Maxi Dresses

Plus Size Maxi Dresses

There aren’t a lot of fashion trends that can span the entirety of the human form and look great on everyone. In fact, I can only think of one such example- the maxi dress. Plus size maxi dresses are lovely for fitting curvy beautiful women, giving them the shapely grace and femininity that they deserve, as well as unsurpassed comfort. However, not all maxi dresses are created equal. If you’re plus sized and looking for the perfect maxi dresses, remember these key factors in the perfect dress:

The Cut

The default cut of maxi dresses- the empire waist- is good if the fit is right and the dress is cut properly. The area that the bust line cinches at should be just below your bra strap, and not come up and above that across your bust line. The fabric on an empire waist should fall comfortably below, and spill to the ground in a graceful line. If the dress hangs up on you anywhere, it’s not a proper fit.

The Bust

The bust should hold your breasts. You shouldn’t be spilling out over the top of the maxi dress.

The Length

Typically, maxi dresses should fall to just above the floor with your toes just popping out, or should end just below the knees. If the length sits in the middle of your shins, it’s too long/too short and will make you look like a box. And don’t forget- if you wear the dress long, flats are fine to wear, If it’s shorter, you may want to opt for a heel, which will elongate your legs.

The Fabric

Too much fabric will make you look like a Halloween sheet ghostie. On plus size women, maxi dresses that aren’t at all tight but don’t have a ton of blowy fabric are a good idea.

The Print

It’s fine to choose maxi dresses with large prints when you’re a larger woman. In fact, this is encouraged over small prints and small graphic details. The effect is more dramatic and more attractive.

The Color

You don’t have to stick with “slimming” black. If the fit of the dress is right, you can choose any color you want. However, a perfectly fitting black maxi may end up being that black dress that you utilize in all of those night time formal occasions, and can look stunning.

The Sleeves

If you have larger arms, sleeveless may actually be counterproductive. Spaghetti straps may not be an option if you’re ample-busted, but a nice tank strap looks good on everyone. Don’t think that you have to cover up your arms if they aren’t perfect… it’s just not true!

I hope these suggestions have helped guide you on your way to that perfect maxi. Plus size maxi dresses are easy to find. There’s many, many to choose from and try on, so have fun!
