Learn to sew, or if you already know how, break out that sewing machine! What a perfect way to make sure your friend isn’t going to wear the same exact thing you are. Personally, my favorite sewing machine I purchased off of Craigslist. It’s got four stitches only, but the best part about it is, I don’t have to tune it up nor has it ever quit. It’s all you need for basic sewing. Fabrics can be bought in stores or online. In fact, online there are many merchants of really nice fabrics for cheap, along with decent sewing notions and extras that can give your cute cheap dresses that perfect touch.

Another way to get great cute dresses for cheap is to look around at your local discount stores, like Target or Walmart. Target is particularly good for casual, really stylish numbers that will still last a few wears in the washing machine while costing you almost nothing. Target has been known for being more fashion forward to the younger and hip crowd, so it’s a fairly safe bet- even for plus size girls. Check out Target online too.

Entering a child into a typical pageant can cost anywhere around $500.00, to thousands. The costs all depend on the entry fee of that pageant, the costumes and dresses the contestant wears, and the cosmetic prep and hiring of cosmetic professionals to prepare them for their pageant performances. Families will spend weeks and months in preparation for their pageants, and take them very seriously. They do this because they claim it heightens self-esteem of the little girls (and sometimes boys) when they take part and compete in pageants. They also claim that the children enjoy doing them.

One of the most expensive aspects of a childhood pageant will be the costumes and dresses. Depending on the competition guidelines, different styles of dresses will be needed. When it’s all said and done, a little girl done up in one of these get-ups will barely appear to look like the little girl she really is.

The reality is, little girls don’t become more self-assured adults from pageant participation. One study done showed that girls who regularly participated in pageants had higher BMI’s and lower self-esteem than girls who didn’t. On top of all of this, some families have gone bankrupt and spent entire family earnings on pageants.

You usually can’t throw a nicer long dress over your head like you can a casual one- the fits on these are typically more tailored and usually clasp or zip closed on your body. Choose sexy features. As I mentioned, a backless dress can be absolutely show stopping if you’ve got the back to show off. Wear heels with your formal long dress too. If you choose a long dress that’s got a cut up the side of the skirt (very old fashioned but encouraged if you can find a good one and you’ve got great legs), a nice pair of heels will drop jaws.

They’re one of my favorite articles of clothing, of which I indulge in often. As a busy mom who still loves to look great and do nice things once in a while, long dresses suit me and my life perfectly!

Simple wedding dresses are a good choice if you’re a bride that doesn’t like all of the hoopla involved in having a wedding. Maybe you’re putting on a wedding to please your family. Maybe you’re putting on a wedding to please your friends. If you’re having a wedding outside and you’re the outdoorsy type, a simple wedding dress may fit your personality better.

Some brides dream of putting on a wedding that comes with one outrageous component. Some we’ve heard of have been riding horses down the aisle, or playing a game of football in your wedding attire.  This dress is the quintessential lovely beach dress. This dress is flowy and light, and that light Caribbean blue is perfect on the beach. It looks great with her cooler skin tone complexion, and really sets off her tan. The halter-top strap is so beachy and carefree, as well as sexy. I like the simplicity in the solid color too.

 This shows how a large floral pattern can look fabulous if done right. The colors on this dress, like the last, and bright and lovely. This would be perfect for spring and summer. The spaghetti strap fit above well on this model (although I’m sure she doesn’t have issues fitting into a whole lot of things), which shows how spaghetti strap tops should fit. The bust should be in side of the dress, not falling out of it.

 A great example of a sleeveless long maxi dress. The reason I like this dress is because the ruching at the top that fits over the bust fits just over the bust and not the entire torso, which some maxi dress designs seem to. The color is a nice green, although it’s not my favorite… but the design of this strapless long maxi is solid and well done.

 This sleeveless v-neck dress is wonderful. This maxi can be worn casually or formally. The yellow is a fabulous yellow too, and would look great on almost anyone.  The design would also be suitable for women of any age, especially older women who like fresh and updated looks. It’s got class.

 And finally- I think the model may have a lot to do with why this dress is absolutely adorable, but I love it anyway, and here’s why- The patterns, they just GO. They don’t match, but cleverly, they go together. That, and the dress is perfectly proportioned on her.

Long maxi dresses are wonderfully versatile and lovely in any style and pattern. You’d almost have to try really hard to get this one wrong!

Color, color, color. Hey, it’s not summer yet, so try to stay away from the hot pinks and ‘blast me in the face’ yellows. Spring calls for muted, pastel, and pretty light colors that are gentle to the eyes. Take a cue from nature. Spring flowers rarely are made of bright oranges, pinks, yellows, and reds. These flowers bloom in the summer or late summer early fall. In the spring, white and lavender crocus, fluffy yellow narcissus, and light blue/purple bluebells are poking their heads up and blooming. Copy these demure spring peepers. Wait until the weather gets hot and the hot pinks come out to play. In the meantime, dabble in the pretty and airy.

Be careful with floral patterns. Geometric patterns are fine, or I should say, were fine- back in the days of the pioneers. They also belong on little girls’ clothing, not yours. Fresh and updated floral designs, usually artsy, suggestive prints and large representations of florals are nice. I prefer solid spring dresses, especially ones in a pretty light and fresh green. But if you must wear a floral, pick something with class and something that doesn’t wash you out or make you look like you’re wearing a mumu.

Nordstrom offers a wide selection of petite dresses that cater to every taste imaginable. Prices run from very reasonable to a little on the higher end, but the quality of the dresses is impeccable. However, the best part of shopping at Nordstrom is that you have a lot of choices. They’re almost endless.

You can find pretty petite dresses at almost any online department store. Just remember to keep the fit simple and the patterns tasteful so that you don’t disappear in your dress.
