Would you wear a Freakum Dress?
Maybe you know what I’m talking about when I say “freakum dress”. If you don’t, I’ll explain to you what a freakum dress is. Beyonce Knowles coined the term “Freakum Dress” in one of her songs- aptly named Freakum Dress. In the music video, she’s seen getting ready to go out for the night and seems to decide that she wants to wear a dress that sends the idea of an “invitation” to the men at the club. She’s surrounded by other women of all colors and sizes, wearing their freakum dresses, like her.
These freakum club dresses are all, for the most part, very short and very tight. The fabric leaves nothing to the imagination and comes in all of the shiniest, brightest colors you can think of. They bear lots of cleavage, and generally speaking are composed of as little fabric as possible. On a very low level, the dresses are extremely eye catching- because they’re colorful, moving around all over the place, and are very shiny.
Overall though, the song is fun to listen to and the music video is fun to watch. I do tend to enjoy Beyoncé’s attitude about being carefree, yet respecting yourself. I suppose the sexual nature in all of us is completely normal and there’s no reason to be a prude. So, my original question is this: Would you wear a freakum dress to the club as your club dress? I guess it all depends on what your ultimate goal for going out to the club is. Are you going to the club to have fun only? Are you there for a few drinks? Maybe you’re there just to meet friends and move on to something else. Or are you there to take someone home?
What would most men think of a girl wearing a dress to the club like a freakum dress? I suppose that many men would see that as Beyoncé’s “invitation”. The optimist in me hopes that most men would find it gaudy- maybe like most women would. Regardless, I’d hope that if you did decide you could pull off a dress like this club dress, you could do it in confidence and have a good time.
You know what; I bet if someone dared me to do it, I’d probably wear a freakum dress. I’d “shake it all around and take it to the ground”.
